 Kapa Haka

Kapa Haka was today as soon as we got to school we had to get our uniforms and then get our black lipstick and moko on. After that we got a feather in our hair. Our hair had to be half up half down. Once the second bell went it was show time...

The boys had to take off their shirt and we had to take off our sweatshirts and cardigans then we had to line up in our rows I was in the second row. We were in our dresses and the boys were in there shorts and we warmed up with a song which made Koka Nolian cry a bit then we had a deep breath and started.

We started with a song called Utaina Mai it was so fun to do I loved it. Then after that we did a really nice song called Ka Waiata.  The Poi, one of my favourite things we had to do it to a song called Rona it's a lovely song since I'm in the second row I only go down on my knees while front row was on their bottom. Then we did the song again. After that song we did a type of haka for girls I think. It's called Ka Panapana.

In the song the girls moved backwards and the boys moved forward for the Haka. After Ka Panapana the boys did the Haka they were so so loud. After that the girls walked back to the front then my friend started a song the last song called Toi Mai then after that song we were finished. The End

They came starting with a story,  Nanny Kora was telling her grandchildren a story then she said it was time for bed. The crayfish kept asking for Nanny Kora to tell another story. One of them left but the other one stayed and Nanny Kora another story and how she saved the planet from the aliens.This is how it went. 

The aliens came down to come dump their rubbish but first the servants had to do a dance to say that it was the right place to dump rubbish. So they did. There were other kids that came down to the skate park first they dumped some rubbish then left. They came back the next day to find the crazy rubbish that the aliens dumped on earth. They tried to touch it but it burnt them.Then they found a robot that they left he was crazy.

The robot told the kids about how bad the aliens were for littering so they called them first it was a song of Peppa Pig then it was coco melon then it was d d d d da Dora and there were two boys and they danced like nobody was watching but everyone was watching. Then the aliens came back and the kids tried to talk to the king of the aliens but that didn't work.

After a while they went to Nanny Kora and told her about it she said I've told you to tidy up but they haven't been. But she still wanted the robot to call the aliens. The aliens came and did everything that Nanny Kora said. Then she told her about how she was the biggest diva underwater. They danced to Baby shark.

Then they ended it with a dance saying to tidy up, it was funny. That was our time at IlMINSTER for the Green Team Play

Speech Finals

Speech Finals

It was speech finals after morning tea and I was in it. I was so nervous. It was time for my turn to speak. I was after my friend. My speech was about gymnastics obviously and why the NZ gymnastics Nationals is worth it. 

I had to wait a long time on stage before I was allowed to speak. He gave me a thumbs up so I started speaking. I started with a joke that went "What do Bananas and gymnasts have in common... they both have great splits."  Then I kept talking. I had finished and I was so nervous after so as soon as I had finished I waited a few seconds and kinda ran down off the stage.

My speech paragraphs were about things like what you can do after the finals then the next paragraph was about how you can be on TV, then my third paragraph was about meeting new people seeing new things and also getting to try new foods and experiences. 

I had three paragraphs left, the 4th one was about stuff I will do to get to Nationals, then my 5th paragraph was about fears and how much fears happens. Then it was the conclusion I said all the things that I had said before. That was my speech.

In the end I came second and my friend Bridie won I was so happy for her. That was the end of my big speech finals. THE END

 

Number L3 Maths

Number L3

Today we had Number L3 it was so fun. We were doing a square and house path. It was so fun, my friend Lila and my friend Zoe and me were all helping each other. Here's a picture of my Maths Evidence slide for our Square and house path!!

Athletics!

 Athletics!!

I was so so nervous for athletics we only had one practice and it was on the second week the actual athletics. The day had come I got a green colour top on cause that's my house colour, then I got some green paint on my face. Once the day started the athletics started.

We started out with ball throw. It was my turn I didn't do very well so I don't know what place I came. Then it was long jump I like long and the only reason I'm ok at it is because of vault at the gymnastics club, you run up and jump!

Then it was sprints, I am good at sprints so I was in the third heat and if you had a star on your hand you were fast and I had that. On your marks get set go I start running I was coming in first and in the end I did come first!Then it was the finals Go! I start running and my super fast friend Betsy won but I came second.Next was high jump!

We all started with a meter high wich was hard for me but I made it then it got higher and higher. Then one of the teachers that were running high jump said that Betsy and Me came first equail and my other friend Lola.S came third. After 200m GO! I started sprinting and India my friend was just in front of me then I went faster and her and me tied 1st.Then for the finals India and me tied again but we were 3rd.

That was the amazing Athletics I had an amazing day !!

First Day back!!

 First Day Back!!

Doo Doo Doo my alarm clock sings. Time for school, I get dressed, have breakfast, brush my teeth, brush my hair and I'm ready. My Mum and sister took forever to get ready so we went to school at 8:00 am. I get to school but the clouds are sad.

As soon as the bell rings we come sign in and sit on the mat. Then Koka Ngaire says people from the first and second row for kapa haka has to go to the hall because there was a powhiri. We lined up in our lines for kapa haka and we sang two songs then we left. We got back to class and we had to do priorities and workshops.

Then we had brain break, I had some crackers then we came back in and my friends Zoe, Lila and Charlotte went to a workshop with me. It was strand L3 it was about measures. After that I came back to do the rest of my blog. Time for morning tea. That is today!! 

Hamanatua Walk

 Hamanatua Walk

On Tuesday MLH went on a big big walk to the end of Hamanatua (well that's what we think).There was so many cute young animals but the walk was fun we had to stay in a single filem the entire time but that didn't happen most of the time. So I will tell you about that walk.

First we had to cross a river Koka Rozie went first she just went over it like it was nothing but that didn't happen for me. There was some type of log thing so I jumped over that but when it came to one of the boys it was kinda funny one of the boys fell all the way in I felt bad but it was so funny.

Then we had the walk, we got about half way and we stopped off at this really cool tree there were so many sitting spots. We were eating our food at the tree and 4 wasps started to fly around my friend Zoe so we moved. Then we kept walking we got to this clay type of thing it made the shoes so heavy.

We got to the end of the stream we think we saw so so many ducklings they were all so cute. We saw them swimming then we walked back. The walk back felt so much quicker then on the way there. On the way back from the stream we went past the first bit of the stream like we did at the start and this time it wasn't the boy that did it first but it was another boy.

He feel on his bottom and just stayed in there because he had fallen so much on the trip. Then we walked back to school and we got to play for about 20 minutes. It was home time and we got GREEN GOLD for an enviroschool that is a really good colour. We went home and that was the Hamanatua walk.

The Amazing Jean Batten Day

 The Amazing Jean Batten Day

Last week our class learnt about this amazing New Zealander called Jean Batten. We were all in our buzz groups and we had to find out some things about her of her cat, but I'm telling you about the day that we did on Tuesday. We did so many things so I will tell you about my favourite things I did.

The first thing I loved was making paper planes. The reason we did that was because Jean Batten is a flyer she was the first lady to fly from England to New Zealand. So we got given a sheet of paper that would say Moth or Gull (those are 2 types of planes that she tried) so we made those planes with the sheet and instructions. I had the moth I found it really hard to make. After that we went to 3 stations and in the end the Gull paper plane was the best for flying. Making it was so fun though.

Next the fun Mayday bit. So we were in groups and in the group that I was in we had 5 people that means that we only got 4 Mayday sheets. We had to try to get to the finish line before the other team and if you feel off your whole team would have to go back to the start that happened once in our team. Our last player was the last on the mayday sheets he jumped and landed the littlest bit away from the line and we bet 3:16 seconds we got 2:57 seconds so we came first because our teachers let us have the win. We were so happy it was fun too.

Those were my favourites but there was still so many more fun ones. 

 

  

Story Starters or we could say SS

 Story Starters

Story Starters are some type of sentences. Some of them are crazy and you can just make up your own story, it is so cool. Most of the time I make up story but other times I don't like... 

Once I did one about " there was smoke everywhere". That one was true. I was on the tramp flipping around and dad started the fire in the fireplace. The smoke was everywhere. There was another SS that was not true but I liked it because it was my best story yet. SS 's are fun!

There is a few rules like no guts,blood,guns, and aliens. But I don't like to write about things like that so I knew I would  follow the rules. Otherwise there are none other rules so I was free to write. The teachers say we should try write at least 3 paragraphs in between the introduction and conclusion.

Story Starters make you feel so creative like you can write anything and there is no limits. It feels amazing. Koka Pip made a few more so we didn't have to keep going over the same SS.

I love Story Starters, writing is so much more fun with story Starters.  

My 2 new gymnastics skills in lockdown

My 2 new skills

 It all started out when I had done a half twist on the tramp which is a strait body back tuck with a half twist. That half twist wasn't new but my full twist on the tramp was as new as a leotard from a shop. Then my round-off flick back-tuck on my tumble track. It was kinda new, because I know how to do it on the gym floor but not my tumble track because I have never tried it. So I will be telling you about my new skills in my blog.

First my full twist on the tramp. I new how to do a half twist on the tramp, so I got comfortable with that then once I thought I was ready I just jumped higher and twisted harder then I kept falling on my face. Until the full twist happened. I started to scream that's how happy I was. I did it again and again I was so happy with myself. It kinda felt weird doing a full not a half.

 Next my round-off flick back-tuck. I know how to do one on the gym floor and on the tumble track at the gym but I've never tried it on my tumble track so I did. I chickened out heaps but then my Dad and neighbor were watching but my neighbor was watching from a distance. So I said to myself I was going to do it thinking that I would chicken out again but I did it. Then I did it again and again. I was so happy with myself, but then I was practicing and I hurt my heel so I was sad. Mum said I had to rest for a few days so I was super sad.

Lockdown!!!

 Lockdown

Last week I found out we were going into level 4 lockdown at 11.59 that night. I didn't want to go into lockdown because it reminded me of last lockdown and how boring it got. So I will be telling you about what I have done. I did things like going to the beach, playing on the tramp with my siblings.

The Beach. I love the beach because you get to just put your feet into the sand and also just sea glass. I love finding sea glass because now we have the whole street looking for it. Last lockdown all the people on the beach saw was my family's heads looking down at the sand on our beach walks, and we will probably do the exact same thing again.  I feel so happy when I find a piece, but when I find a piece and the wave gets it is annoying, also when your brother steals it.

The Tramp. The tramp is so fun at our house we get to learn new tricks, play games, also launching my little sister from a mattress so she goes flying. Our tramp is good because we have a net around it so no one flies out. I'm so happy that I can do a layout-half-twist (it's a gym move) because I couldn't do that before but the tramp helped me. I love when we all get to play games some are like, who can jump the highest, and who can do the highest backdrop. Then the mattresses I love when my brother and me say to my sister to lie down on the mattress and we would make her into a taco and bounce, then on the 6th bounce we would jump back and up so she would go flying. It worked so she went so high.

Reading WL3

I love Reading WL3, we always have a new goal every 2 weeks. This week our goal was: Skim read to locate specific information & retell. 

We got to read a digital text from Kiwi kids News. It was about the Olympics and how some of our Kiwi athletes were going in which sport. We skim read through the text because on the Success Criteria it said not to read the whole text. We had to write in our books about who were the people in the text, what were the sports, when it happened, and where it was. ( I will show you a picture at the end)

After we skim read through the text the group talked about some of the who, what, when, and where. One of the who's were Lisa Carrington. One of the what's were Athletics. The When was Day 13. Last but not least the where was Tokyo Olympics 2020.That was our fun Reading WL3.

This term we have an inquiry called going for gold. One of the things is about the olympics. I will tell you about the funnest booklet ever.

So we got this olympic booklet by Kiwi Kids News. It's so fun we all have one in MLH and we have 3 weeks to finish it. There's stories about the ancient olympics, there are cool games about the olympics. We also get to do your favorite kiwi athlete, last but not least we get to do things about Japan!

 Sometimes you get to say who your favorite kiwi athlete is for the olympics and paralympics, I choose Madaline Davidson for olympics (she does trampoline). We get to write her date of birth, age, hometown, sport, first olympics, and achievements. I also had to the same thing for paralympics. I choose Sophie Pascoe for the paralympics ( she is a swimmer).

I got to where it said Japan popular culture and I was worried. There was K-pop, Kawaii, Manga, and Anime. I knew what all of it was but, I do not know how to draw. All I know is that I tried and I think it looks ok.

I love the Olympic booklet. I wish we had the olympics every year so we could do the olympics booklet.

L3 Number!!!

 L3 Number

L3 Number one of my favourites workshops L3 Number is math there's L2, EL3 but I'm in L3. We learnt: solve any addition question with decimals using place value. So I will show a picture about that.

I got all of the answers right, and since it was in litres I got an extra tick not many people did the litres sign, but it was my friend who told me to do the litres 😁. I like how we do a Learning Intention and work on that for the week since we go twice a week. I love L3 Number, it's so fun.

Reading EL3!!!

 Yay reading EL3! Our goal was to compare information within and between texts. We were doing a Matariki text, we had to do a venn diagram, a venn diagram is when there is 2 circles and they cross over,  the middle of the cross over is what is the same, and the other circles are for what is different in each text. We had to do ours about a Matariki text one online and one on paper, and I have the photo on paper so I will show you that and I will show you my venn diagram so...

Strand L3! Oranges

My favourite workshop is Strand. I like strand because we get to do these really cool things; measurement, math, predictions and so much more. But today, it was about measurement and oranges! I will tell you why.

Last week we learnt about a man called Mr. Archimedes and his bath. He would fill the bath to the very top with water then hop in, and it overflowed, he didn't know why? We had a vase in our class that we put water in, we then put in an orange. We figured out why the water came up, because the pressure of the orange pushed the water up! This is what I had to do, (it's a picture by the way)

Yay relievers today, I love when we have relievers because we normally do art. This time we did do art, Room 1 did Picasso and Room 2 did Sandra Silberzweig art, but I'm in Room 1 so I will tell you about the picasso art.

We grabbed a piece of paper and a vivid we weren't allowed to have another piece of paper or use pencil. We started with the face, the face that I did was a weird face but I was fine with that. After the face we had to draw a line that looked like it was the side of a face. Then we had to choose a nose, lips, ears, eyes also for the eyes they didn't have to be the same eye, that was all for our face. After all of that we had to do the hair mine was good until I wanted to do a beanie and after the actual hat of the beanie I decided I didn't like it.  But I had to roll with it and just made it into hair, you can hardly tell.  Then we had to colour the face and hair, put the paper on the back of the black paper, then do the background and were done.

It's Enviro Action day today! I wonder what we're doing. If you don't know what action day is I will tell you.  Enviro Action day is where we do some action for our community, I like it because I do it with the class and my friends, also I just find it fun to do. Now for the story!

Dinnggg the bell went for school, I felt so excited. Koka Pip said we were going to the beach and we were going to pick up rubbish. We had to get into groups of 3, I was with my friend Lila and my other friend Betsy, we had to grab Lila's bucket for the rubbish to go in. We walked down to the beach and off we went.

I found out that it was a competition so I was excited! We walked from our beach that we normally go to, to the Surf Club, we found so much. Then we walked to the path under the bridge near Hamanatua and we found a bit of rubbish, so I was happy because it meant more rubbish in our bucket and Hamanatua was more clean. 

We walked back to school and we got a sheet, it was to check off how much rubbish we got. The group that I was in got quite a lot of rubbish. Then we put our rubbish into the right bin and we went to morning-tea. At the end of the day we found out who won, it wasn't our team,😒 but I was fine with that, I'm just happy we found heaps of rubbish!

Callbacks & day 2 of gym fest

 Callbacks/day 2 of gym fest

It was callbacks and if you don't know what callbacks it is when you get called back for something. We got a callback for our rhythmical and I got a callback for my beam too! 

I had to do my beam first. The man called my name for beam. Everyone went silent, I got on the beam and did my mount and off I went. Then I did my dismount, presented and I was done. I was so proud of myself because I was the only one at the gym club for an apparatus. We had to wait a little bit for our rhythmical but I was fine with that.

The man said WBS rhythmical we got in our posies and off we went. I felt good about the chuck and tuck. All of a sudden I realized it was time for the chuck and tuck. The chucker and me said... " Testing, testing 123 " and we went, it was so high. I felt super duper proud of myself for going out there and doing it.

That was the callback night of gym fest!

Gymnastics Festival!!

 GYM FEST!! 

 

I was so nervous for the gym festival. Oh and if you were wondering what the gym fest is it's a cool festival for gymnastics. Boys can do it and girls can do it. Obviously I wanted to do it, gymnastics is my life, and my 3rd home. 

 I was the only one competing in our entire school, but I was excited. I went in to the trampolining club ( waiting room for gymnasts ).    Then I waited for all the other A-graders. Once we got there we practiced some of our moves on the floor and did a bit of box. After about 30 minutes we had to line up in our lines for the school. They told us where we were going first box/vault. But I'm going to tell you my two favorite. Beam and floor.

We walk out into the gym club,  we moved onto our apparatus that was beam, one of my best. It was my turn, I presented and I got on the beam and off I went. I got a 9 out of 10 I was so happy. It was time for our next apparatest floor and I was so excited we had to make our own routine with music my song was Bom bom! It was time for me to do my routine, I started with a round-off flick-flack and ended with a pose. I got another 9 out of 10 I was so happy!

I got changed for the rhythmical, I was so nervous my friend and me had to do a chuck & tuck, it's where I have to do a backflip while my friend chucks me in the air. It was our turn for rhythmical I was so nervous. We all got into our posies and off we went. It was time for the chuck & tuck, I just said that I was going to throw it, and after we did it I was so happy but I did land low. We did our ending and I felt so proud of myself.

That was day 1 of gym fest. I'm going to write another blog about the callbacks on day 2!

We have 30 minutes to complete our poster, but you may be wondering what is our poster about. Well it's about our kawa of care. There is 5 big thinks, but my friend and me did big think 3, that's about how we work on our chromebook.  The picture below shows it.

My Week 7

 Yay only 14 people in the class for a week. We had a week when the Yr 6s were on camp, I was excited for that week because I knew it was going to be fun with my teacher Koka Pip.

14 Smooth Grooves

Smoothies

We created, we planned, we refined a little, and in the end it was delicious. Now would you like to know what Im talking about well Im talking about our SMOOTHIES!  We all had groups I was in a group with Dune my friend, our smoothie was called The Sweet DNA.

 I'll tell you our ingredients: Banana, coconut milk, hot chocolate powder, strawberries and ice. It might seem like a weird combination but it all tastes good in the end and at the end I'll tell you why.  Dune & me had to make a picture of what you think it would look like so we didi and we wrote the recipe for it too. It was super cool, but the thing I like the most was working together with Dune.

It was a competition so we tried to make ours the best. We also had to do videos while we were making it, it was really neracking. But we did it anyway! Dune decided to shake the ice while the lid was off so a bit off ice fell on the ground. Also we added a strawberry sauce and a strawberry accidently fell on the table but it was fine.

But in the end the sweet DNA won!!!!!

The Boats

The boats, we made them out of butcher paper, and scissors, oh and a lot of tape. My friend Kyla-rose & me were in a team we made a boat called "The NZ Origami Zoom" it's pretty cool. It was really fun too!

Firstly we made a origami boat and then rapped in heaps and heaps of tape .After Koka Pip thought ours was going to float. After we made it look good we were all ready to go but we had to wait for everyone else. Once everyone was ready we went to the pool and started the timer "go" said Archie we put our boat in. After like 2 seconds ours fell over. But a lot of peoples fell over too. 

The last 3 people were Archie, Bridie-Millie, and Arthur's but Arthurs fell so he was out. Then Archies fell so in the end Bridie and Millie won.

 
 

The Earthquake

The  Earthquake 

Thursday night the things in my room are shaking while I'm asleep what happens next?                                Friday morning the news and my family are all talking about what happened and what happened was an earthquake! I walk to school and I can already hear people talking about it. I get to school feeling so excited for House captains but nervous because of the earthquake.  

 Koka Rozie's phone had an alert she went to go check with Koka Nolian in her office to see what to do, but Koka Pip said when Koka Rozie comes back its time for House Captains.  As soon as Koka Rozie came back she said "line up in 2 lines" I got a little bit scared. So we lined up and went up to our meeting spot for emergencies and practices. The gates were open for us to start walking up the hill for a tsunami but luckily we didn't I was so relieved.

We went back to class and so we found out the house captains then got back to work. People started to get picked up from school for there own safety.  All of a sudden I heard my Dad I knew I was going home. So we went to pick up my sister and brother then we decided to go to my Mum & Dads work and from there I felt safe for the rest of the day.

So Far in T1

 So Far in Term 1

"So far, what has happened this year? Would you like to know?" Well Moana syndicate are walking our Pepeha.  Koka Ngaire, Koka Rozie and Koka Pip are really nice. We walked up Maungaroa with the whole Moana syndicate for our "walking our Pepeha". It's been so fun so far. 

We've walked our Pepeha which was really fun we went to Hamanatua 1st it was so fun. We all got to play, my friends and me made these really cool tunnels, there were three tunnels and they all led to the middle.  We could all touch each others hands. Then we walked back to school on the beach it was so nice to feel the sand in my toes.

 Then we went to Maungaroa it was such a steep walk and there was heaps of cow poop it was so disgusting but we made it to the top. I loved the view it was so beautiful. But when we walked back down we walk back to school on the beach and I found 3 bits of sea glass. We  got back to school and my legs were so sore the next day.                                                                                                                                                    Last but not least we went to Te Poho o Rawiri Marae. We got welcomed into the Marae, then Aunty Buba introduced everyone. After 2 people from Moana 1 and 2 people from Moana 2 had to a Hongi I was one of the people. Then Aunty Buba said some stories, then we learnt the mama panda song and the actions to it. After the mama panda song we sat down and there were more stories.                                 

So walking our Pepeha was really fun!  I'm so excited to see what comes next for this year. The teachers are so nice and my friends and so great. I love MLH so far.
