The Super trip to Mangone Station ( The Wetlands )

On monday Honu and the enviro group went on a trip to the Mangone Station ( The Wetlands ). First we went into the wool shed to put our bags down. Second went to the lamb shed we were in the lamb shed for about 10 mins.

Then we started gardening, I was in a group with my friends. We had to look for the plants first. We found the first plant that we mulched. My friends and me did about 7 plants before we went to mulch duty. Mulch duty means we had to fill up the bags and buckets ups. My friends and me did that really fun job for about 30 mins.

My friends and me went over to the other side of the pond and had to mulch 2 other plants. 

Interschools Athletics

Interschools Athletics!

Wednesday the 4th of November 2020. It was interschools for athletics. I was nervous but so excited and proud I had so many emotions. I will talk about the 200m race that I was in and when I was in the finals for the 200m race.

 They only took the top two people. I was in the 2nd heat with my gym friend. She is so fast. The first people go. Lila is in the first heat so I cheer her on. Then it’s my turn, we go in a jagged line. I was at the front of the jagged line. Your marks get set gooo! I start running, I’m in the lead until my gym friend speeds in front.

Then this other girl goes in front of me. She was wearing blue, but we were getting to the end of the 200m. The girl in the blue starts to slow down but I speed up and I get in front of her. I come 2nd yay now I’m in the finals!!!

I wait for a little bit then we get in our lines. Your marks get set gooo! We start running. I'm coming 2nd to last but I speed up we’re getting to the end I go past the finish lines I came 4th or 5th!

My mum and I got an ice-block ( juicy ) and sausage. The sausage’s were so good and the ice-blocks were amazing too. It was the best day ever!

 

The Bee Bots

Today my friend Zoe and I had to do something with this robot, it's called a bee bot. In Zoe's and my reading roupu we read the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Then Zoe and I decided to work together on the bee bots and the story. So Zoe and I grabbed these sheets, we had to draw pictures of the main characters and the main places. 

Then it was time to put the pictures in this grid and we put all the pictures around the grid. It was time for the bee bot to shine. The bee bot looks like a bee and it has some buttons, there is one button to go forward one button to go to the left one button to go to the right and one button to go backwards. Then in the middle there is a button that says go. On the left side there is a X button and on the right side there is pause button.

Then we pressed a forward button then a side button and we had to make it to the end of the story. The amazing thing is that it worked! The story went in order for the bee bot. It was so fun getting to use the bee bot. These are what the bee bots look like.  

The Adventure Of the Tairawhiti Enviro Centre

Honu and room 1 went to the Tairawhiti Environment Centre. We learnt about all of the the waste going into the landfill, and how we can stop some of the rubbish going into it. We also learnt about compost and worm farms and food. 

We were put into groups and we learnt that a lot of the time people from grocery shops just throw away the food, because it's about to be expired but it's actually fine.

We learnt about the 6 R's which is reuse, refuse, recycle, rethink, reduce and repair.Reuse it can be made into something else to extend its life, like an old table. Refuse is when you chose not to use items, such as plastic bags. Recycle is when you use materials that can be broken down and made into something else after its been used, like glass or fizzy cans. Rethink is when you think if you actually need it or do you just want it. Reduce is when you reduce the amount of the materials that used, such as paper bags and not plastic. Repair is when you fix the parts that

can be replaced easily instead of just throwing it all away.

 Then we learnt about the compost and I learnt that you have to put layers and it is like lasagna. You have to put brown then green then brown then green. We learnt about the worm farms and what we can put in it and what we can't. It was really fun.

That was my amazing trip to the Tairawhiti Enviro Centre!! 👍
